Ecomark Scheme of India (ECOMARK)

The scheme aims to encourage the demand for environment-friendly products that cause lesser adverse impacts on the environment. It provides an Ecomark label for products meeting specified environmental criteria to eligible producers, manufacturers, importers, and exporters.
About This Scheme
Benefits
- The scheme grants an Ecomark label to the product.
- The Ecomark granted to the product shall be valid for a period of three years or until a change in the Ecomark criteria for the product, whichever is earlier.
- Every holder of Ecomark shall submit an annual report to the Central Pollution Control Board online through the web portal on or before the 31st May of every year.
- Every person who has been granted an Ecomark in respect of a product shall affix on such product an Ecomark label granted under these rules.
- The holder of Ecomark shall allow the Central Pollution Control Board or the registered agencies to undertake such inspection and verification as may be considered necessary for ensuring compliance.
- The holder of the Ecomark shall grant access to the premises in which the product concerned is produced or kept to the Central Pollution Control Board and the registered agency.

Required Documents
- ✦Application for Ecomark Certification for a Product (Form 1).
- ✦License or Certificate of Conformity of Indian Standards Granted Under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
- ✦Consent Clearance as per the Provisions of Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
- ✦Consent Clearance as per the Provisions of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
- ✦Authorisation Under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Rules Made Thereunder (If Required).
- ✦Documentary Evidence by Way of Certificate or Declaration for the Collection Pay Back System for Used Batteries (Required for Automotive Lead-Acid and Dry Cell Batteries).
- ✦Documentary Evidence With Respect to the Compliance of Regulation Under Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 and Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940 (Required for Plastic Products).
- ✦Documentary Evidence on Compliance of the Provisions Related to Noise Level and Occupational Health Under the Provisions of Factories Act, 1948 (Required for Textiles).

How to Apply
The applicant must access the centralized online Ecomark web portal developed by the Central Pollution Control Board for making applications and tracking Ecomark certification.
Step 2: Submitting the Application FormThe applicant must fill and submit an application for the grant of Ecomark for a product which complies with the specified conditions to the Central Pollution Control Board.
Step 3: Verification of the ProductOn receipt of the application, the Central Pollution Control Board shall, by itself or through a designated Verifier, verify whether the product complies with the required environmental conditions.
Step 4: Preparation and Submission of the ReportAfter making such verification, the Central Pollution Control Board or the Verifier shall prepare a report and submit it within a period of sixty days from the date of such verification.
Step 5: Grant of the Ecomark CertificateOn receipt of the verification report, if the Central Pollution Control Board is satisfied that the product complies with the conditions, it may grant the Ecomark to the product.
