About This Scheme

The scheme "Establishment of Small Scale Poultry Unit (Layer) for livestock owners of Daman & Diu" has been launched by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, U.T. Administration of Daman & Diu. It aims Economic up-liftmen of the SC/ST, SMF, and BPL Families. Financial assistance in the form of 50% subsidy is provided for the construction of a poultry shed, purchase of pullets (18–21 weeks), poultry equipments and feed for 4 months. The scheme beneficiaries can avail the benefit for two years or till becoming self-sufficient. Units must be operated on scientific lines, and beneficiaries must supply surplus eggs to nearby schools under the Mid-Day Meals Scheme, with fortnightly payment made by the Extension Officer (Dairy) or Veterinary Officer (DP). > Objectives 1. Financial Assistance In The Form Of Subsidy
  1. Financial assistance in the form of a subsidy shall be provided to the individual beneficiary on the following items:
    • Construction of poultry shed.
    • Purchase cost of reared pullets up to the age of 18-21 weeks old.
    • Poultry equipments.
    • Purchase cost of feed for the period of 4 months (till the beneficiary starts earning from the sale price of egg produce).
  2. Each beneficiary will be provided 50% subsidy to the total cost of the unit (i.e., total cost of purchase of Pullets, poultry feed, poultry equipments and construction of poultry shed, etc.), limited to ₹30,000/- per unit.
  3. The beneficiary will be entitled to get the benefit of the scheme for a period of two years or till he becomes self-sufficient.
  4. The financial assistance should be used only for the purpose for which it may be granted.
Disbursement of Funds
  1. Subsidy will be paid directly to the individual or to the suppliers or to the body supplying goods or to an approved agency or institution.
  2. The Veterinary Officer, Daman & Diu, would disburse the assistance in the form of a subsidy after completion of the poultry unit in respect of the construction of a poultry shed, which should be of low-input technology.
  3. Purchase of Pullets, feed, or equipment directly to the individual supplier, body, or an approved agency or institution.
  4. The Extension Officer (Dairy) or Veterinary Officer (DP) will make a fortnightly payment to the beneficiary for the supply of eggs regularly.
  5. Subsidy shall be disbursed after completion of the poultry unit.
  6. The beneficiary will be entitled to get the benefit of the scheme for a period of two years or till he becomes self-sufficient.

Eligibility

  • The applicant shall belong to SC/ST, SMF, and BPL Families.

  • The applicant must have the back ground of poultry farming, or in other cases, the participants must undergo practical training.

  • The applicant must operate the units on the scientific lines as per the technical guidance and services provided by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Daman & Diu.

  • The applicant must operate the unit for at least for the minimum period of two years.

  • The applicant shall have to maintain the prescribed records and furnish the prescribed information to the Veterinary Officer, Daman & Diu, from time to time.

  • The applicant shall have to follow the Instructions issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Daman & Diu.

  • The applicant shall have to execute a bond to the effect that the aforesaid terms and conditions are acceptable and he/it will abide by all of them, failing which he will be liable to be prosecuted as per the existing rules of the Administration.

  • The applicant has to compulsorily sale/supply the surplus eggs to the nearby school under the scheme of Mid-Day Meals.

How to Apply

IIn-person

Step 1: The eligible SC/ST, SMF, and BPL family beneficiary shall participate in the scheme and must have the back ground of poultry farming or, in other cases, undergo practical training provided by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, if required.

Step 2: The beneficiary shall establish the poultry unit, including the construction of a poultry shed (of low input technology), the purchase of reared pullets up to the age of 18–21 weeks old, poultry equipments and the purchase of feed for the period of 4 months (till the beneficiary starts earning from the sale price of egg produce).

Step 3: The units under this scheme shall be operated on scientific lines as per technical guidance and services provided by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Daman & Diu, and shall be operated at least for a minimum period of two years.

Step 4: After completion of the small-scale poultry unit, a completion certificate shall be obtained from the Field Level Worker i.e., Veterinary Stockman or Extension Officer (Dairy), and the certificate shall be countersigned by the concerned Veterinary Officer (D.P) or Veterinary Officer (Animal Husbandry).

Step 5: The Veterinary Officer, Daman & Diu shall disburse the assistance in the form of subsidy after completion of the poultry unit in respect of the construction of poultry shed and purchase of pullets, feed or equipment directly to the individual supplier or body or an approved agency or institution, or to the individual beneficiary as applicable.

Step 6: The beneficiary shall compulsorily sale/supply the surplus eggs to the nearby school under the scheme of Mid-Day Meals.

Step 7: Extension Officer (Dairy) or Veterinary Officer (DP) will do a fortnightly payment to the beneficiary for regular supply of eggs.
