About This Scheme
The “Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) Scheme” is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, for the holistic growth of the horticulture sector covering fruits, vegetables, root & tuber crops, mushrooms, spices, flowers, aromatic plants, coconut, cashew, cocoa, and bamboo. Under MIDH, Government of India (GOI) contributes 60%, of the total outlay for developmental programmes in all the states except states in North East and Himalayas, and 40% share is contributed by State Governments. In the case of North Eastern States and Himalayan States, GOI contributes 90%. MIDH also provides technical advice and administrative support to State Governments/ State Horticulture Missions (SHMs) for the Saffron Mission and other horticulture-related activities Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY)/NMSA. In the state of Meghalaya, the Scheme “Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) Sub Scheme Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan Region (HMNEH)” is implemented by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Meghalaya with the following objectives: - To promote holistic growth of the Horticulture sector through promotion, extension, post-harvest management, processing, and marketing. - To encourage aggregation of farmers into farmer groups like FIGs/FPOs and FPCs to bring economy of scale and scope, enhance horticulture production, augment farmers, income, and strengthen nutritional security. - To improve productivity by way of quality germplasm, planting material, and water use efficiency through Micro Irrigation, support skill development, and create employment generation opportunities for rural youth in horticulture and post-harvest management.
