About This Scheme

The scheme “Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT Students” by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India aims to provide educational empowerment, welfare, and motivation to students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Backward Classes (EBCs), and De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT/S-NT) by providing financial assistance at the pre-matriculation or secondary stage. Through this scheme, a consolidated academic allowance of ₹4,000 per annum is provided to eligible students studying in Classes 9 and 10 in Government Schools. The respective Union Territory Administrations of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu implement the scheme. The scholarship is available for studies in India only and is awarded by the State/Union Territory to which the applicant belongs. The scheme operates through an online scholarship portal with the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode of payment. The scholarship may be renewed every academic year, subject to satisfactory academic performance and minimum attendance requirements. The scheme also aims to improve educational access for socio-economically backward communities through a transparent and technology-driven scholarship system. > Objectives: - To provide welfare and motivation to children belonging to OBC, EBC, and DNT categories through financial assistance at the pre-matriculation or secondary stage. - To support the educational empowerment of socio-economically backward classes. - To facilitate completion of education for vulnerable sections of the target population. - To widen the outreach of scholarship benefits through a uniform and competitive scholarship platform.

Note: The entire scholarship amount both from the State and Central Government will be paid directly into the account of the students or parents ONLY through DBT preferably through an Aadhaar Based Payment System (Aadhaar Payment Bridge-AePS).
