About This Scheme

The scheme Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India aims to support students with disabilities to continue their studies, minimize drop-out rates during the transition from elementary education to higher education, and improve participation of students with disabilities in Classes IX and X at the pre-matric stage of education. Through this scheme, maintenance allowance, book grant, and disability allowance are provided to students with disabilities studying in Classes IX and X. The scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal, and the scholarship amount is transferred to the bank accounts of beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). > Objectives: - To support students with disabilities for further studies and help them prepare to earn their livelihood and live with dignity. - To minimise the incidence of drop-out, especially during the transition from elementary education to higher education. - To improve the participation of students with disabilities in Classes IX and X and at the pre-matric stage of education.

  1. Maintenance Allowance * (₹ per Month): Day Scholars: 500, Hostellers: 800.
  2. Book Grant: ₹ 1000/- per annum.
  3. Disability Allowances (₹ per Annum):
  • Visually Impaired: ₹4,000.
  • Hearing Impaired: ₹2,000.
  • Physically Disabled (OH): ₹2,000.
  • Intellectual Disabilities: ₹4,000.
  • Other disabilities not covered above: ₹2,000.

Eligibility

    The applicant should be an Indian national.

  • •

    The applicant should be a student with a benchmark disability and should have a valid disability certificate issued by the competent authority.

    The applicant should be a regular, full-time student studying in Classes IX and X in:

  • •

    A Government school; or

  • •

    A school recognised by the Government; or

  • •

    A school recognised by the Central/State Board of Secondary Education.

    The applicant’s parents/guardian’s income from all sources should not exceed ₹2,50,000/- per annum.

    Not more than 2 children with disabilities of the same parents will be eligible for benefits under the scheme. In case the second child is a twin, the scholarship will be admissible to both twins.

    % of the total scholarships available each year are reserved for female candidates. If adequate eligible female candidates are not available, remaining slots may be utilised for suitable male candidates.

How to Apply

Step 1: Keep ready the soft copies of the required documents.

Go to http://www.scholarships.gov.in/. And click “New Registration”.

Guidelines for Registration will appear. Scroll to the bottom.

Read carefully the undertaking. Accept the Terms. Click “Continue”.

Step 2: A Registration Form will appear. (The fields marked as * are compulsory)

Fill in the details and click “Register”.

Your Application ID and password will be displayed.

The same will also be sent as an SMS on your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Go to https://scholarships.gov.in/fresh/newstdRegfrmInstruction

Click on “Login to Apply”. Enter your Application ID and password.

Type the Captcha and click “Login”.

On the next screen, provide the OTP received on your registered mobile number. You will be directed to the Password Reset screen.

Create a new password and confirm.

Click “Submit”. You will be directed to the “Applicant’s Dashboard”.

Step 4: On the left pane, click “Application Form”. The fields marked as * are compulsory. Fill in the details and upload the documents.

You can either click on “Save as Draft” to complete the application later.

Else, click “Final Submit” to submit the application.
